Post-Secondary Success Manager

Seneca Foundation, a not-for-profit corporation that administers a software development apprenticeship program headquartered in Chicago, Illinois, is looking for a candidate for the position of Post Secondary Success Manager. This position reports to Seneca’s Board of Directors and collaborates closely with the Engineering Program Manager and other Seneca staff, volunteers, and board members to support Seneca Foundation’s mission and continued growth.

The Seneca Foundation’s mission is to educate, empower, and equip Black and Latinx recent high school graduates in the Chicagoland area with paid intensive software development training, meaningful employment, college financial assistance toward a computer science or other advanced computing  degree, and professional and educational resources.

Position Summary

The Post-Secondary Success Manager is responsible for managing the programs that support  the educational, professional, and social development of Tech Scholars   and alumni. This role also collaborates with volunteer coaches/mentors and professionals in the technology industry who may participate as speakers or panelists.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Post-Secondary Success Manager shall:

  • Support current Tech Scholars  and alumni in their personal and professional growth, including connecting them to appropriate college, career and networking opportunities.

  • Guide Tech Scholars through creating an Individual Education Plan to help them discover their education and career goals, as well as determine their financial needs and available resources for pursuing their degree.

  • Spearhead recruiting efforts by cultivating relationships with target high schools, organizing promotional events, managing the application process, and coordinating interviews with the Engineering Program Manager.

  • Plan, prepare and deliver curriculum and instructional materials focusing on academic success, career and life skills development and financial literacy that facilitate active learning.

  • Serve as liaison between Seneca Foundation and partner companies to support the success of Tech Scholars and address any barriers to their success throughout their internships

  • Establish and oversee a mentor program, including mentor recruitment and training, objective-setting for mentor relationships, and regular program assessment and improvement.

  • Work alongside the Engineering Program Manager to align curriculum, shared toolsets, and integrate Post-secondary/Technical programs.

  • Define and administer an alumni program to support past program Tech Scholarsin their career development and engage them in contributing to the growth of the Seneca Foundation

  • Lead scholarship budgeting and administration, while serving as liaison between Seneca Foundation and universities to ensure proper scholarship transfers.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with community leaders and experts who may participate or lead professional and social development seminars and panels.

  • Advocate for the young adults served by Seneca Foundation to ensure that they are provided with the necessary tools for success.

  • Promote awareness of Seneca Foundation in the community and strive to achieve and maintain positive public perception of Seneca Foundation and the services it provides.

  • Lead the development, coordination, and implementation of organizational events and initiatives, including identifying needs, defining objectives, and overseeing execution.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree; a graduate or advanced degree is highly preferred.

  • Experience in education and/or job training.

  • A coaching/teaching certification or relevant job experience is highly preferred.

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a fast-paced, growth-oriented organization.

  • Experience collaborating with or working within the software or engineering industry is a plus.

  • A strong commitment to social change, and shared belief in Seneca’s vision of a more equitable America.

  • Experience with mentorship or coaching  of youth in underserved communities.

  • Core competencies:

    • Ability to coach, motivate, and influence others;

    • Knowledge of the current social and economic landscape;

    • Independent, results-focused,  and highly-organized;
